The English Beat
From their start in the late '70s in Birmingham, England, the The Beat — later known as The English Beat in the States — brought their euphoric fusion and frisson of 2-Tone, ska, reggae, pop, and punk to the fore with a triad of three influential albums: I Just Can't Stop It (1980), Wha'ppen? (1981) and Special Beat Service (1982). The original band broke up in 1983 and split into two tributaries: General Public (Dave Wakeling and the late Roger Charlery, a.k.a. Ranking Roger) and Fine Young Cannibals (Andy Cox and David Steele). The English Beat lives on with Dave Wakeling elevating the inclusive spirit and message of the band and its many hits, like "Save It For Later" (recently covered by Eddie Vedder in Hulu's "The Bear"), “Mirror In The Bathroom," and “I Confess." Recently, Rhino has released expanded reissues of all three of The English Beat/The Beat's classic albums, with more on the way. In 2018, Dave Wakeling also released the band's first album of new music in 32 years, Here We Go Love. The English Beat, always discovered by new generations of fans, are on tour now.

Jade Bird
Although born in northern England and raised in Wales, this young singer, songwriter and guitarist's understanding of classic Americana and country music was clear when she first visited FUV in 2017 at age 20, upon the release of her debut EP, Something American. Since that time, Jade Bird has been a frequent FUV guest, over the course of multiple EPs and her two albums, her 2019 self-titled debut (with a #1 single, "Lottery") and 2021's Different Kinds of Light. A third album is on the way. She's also impressed us with her knowledge of her mentor in spirit, Johnny Cash. Jade Bird has toured with Hozier, Jason Isbell, and Father John Misty, and at the Bash, she will play with her full band.

Fantastic Cat
With langue de chat firmly planted in cheek, Americana, folk rock and fun-tastic indie supergroup Fantastic Cat has woven a biographical fable (citing the "spiritual vortices of the Pocono Mountains" and describing their music as "Christopher Cross crossed with Kris Kristofferson") and they pose for press shots wearing feline masks, like a more cuddly Slipknot. But songwriters Don DiLego, Anthony D'Amato, Brian Dunne and Hollis Brown frontman Mike Montali have spun what could have been a one-off side project into a full-fledged rock band, releasing two albums to date: 2022's The Very Best of Fantastic Cat and 2024's That's What I Call Fantastic Cat, along with two EPs. They're also on board the benefit album, Silver Patron Saints: The Songs of Jesse Malin. A band of good humor, robust hooks, and sweet harmonies, Fantastic Cat have been good friends of the station for a while, playing an  FUV Live session in 2022 and a Marquee Member concert at The Bitter End last year. The quartet has also visited CBS Mornings' Saturday Sessions. Following Fantastic Cat's appearance at City Winery, the band embarks on a tour in May.
