I've always known that singer, songwriter and Hollis Brown bandleader Mike Montali is a "Fantastic Cat," but now he's joined a New York collective of kindred pals to prove it. Don DiLego, Anthony D'Amato, and Brian Dunne have similar careers on their own (including a little intersection with Hollis Brown) but now they're equal partners in Fantastic Cat with Montali, trading songs, vocals, and even instruments in this spirited collective. The band's debut album, The Very Best of Fantastic Cat, came out in July.
I was very pleased to welcome Fantastic Cat to Studio A for live music and conversation. The Cat is on the prowl — they recently made their recent national TV debut on "CBS Saturday Morning" (video below).
