Slingshot 2018
In 2017, NPR Music, VuHaus and public radio stations around the country kicked off Slingshot, a collective effort to elevate exceptional emerging artists.
The inaugural class of the project included Big Thief, Jamila Woods and Lo Moon, and from acoustic Studio A exclusives to record shopping to poetry to Holiday Cheer, it was a fun few months of getting to know these artists, spreading the word, and seeing the buzz grow.
Now Slingshot is growing too. For 2018, each music member station selected one Slingshot artist. Some are local favorites, some are rising stars from abroad. We started out with 20 — including FUV's pick of Bedouine. Then listeners across the country voted for their favorites. After tallying the votes, the NPR Slingshot Winner of 2018 is Irish singer and songwriter Dermot Kennedy. Nine additional artists made the shortlist, including many who've visited FUV for live sessions, like Snail Mail, Ruston Kelly, Phoebe Bridgers, Mt. Joy, and Thunderpussy.
