Avery Loftis is a News Assistant and host of Thursday's “What’s What” daily news podcast. She also reports and produces original features and interviews for the newsroom and helps with the production of WFUV’s “Strike a Chord” program. Outside of the newsroom, Avery is an undergraduate journalism student. She spends her time in other newsrooms as the editor-in-chief for Fordham College at Lincoln Center’s “The Observer” and a freelance multimedia journalist for outlets across New York City. 

Avery became interested in public radio by listening to Michigan Public Radio with her mom on the way to high school. She has been at WFUV since the summer of 2023 when she first started reporting on arts and culture stories for the newsroom.
