UKNY For July 18
Back in the autumn of 2019 (which now feels like a thousand years ago), Liz Lawrence, who sings backing vocals with Bombay Bicycle Club, was at WFUV's Studio A for an FUV Live session with that band. But Liz has her own very active solo career, releasing her album, Pity Party, that year as well. Liz's next album, The Avalanche, will be out on September 17 and on tonight's "UKNY" at 11 p.m., we'll hear something from that terrific new project.
Manchester's Porij will release their debut EP, Baby Face, on September 17 too, and I'll delve into that, and dig deeper into Sault's latest surprise release, Nine, which is only available until October 2. Mercury Prize nominne Jorja Smith has a beautiful new EP out, called Be Right Back, and Vanishing Twin are also preparing another album, Ookii Gekkou, released October 15.
Also in tonight's mix: London's Little Simz, Teesside's jak lvr, and a dreamy track from New York's own Lightning Bug, who eloquently recall the ambient tides of Cocteau Twins and Talk Talk.
That's "UKNY," Sundays 11p.m.-midnight, on 90.7, streaming online, an available in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
