UKNY For August 22
The waning days of summer means farewell to the seashore and hello to classrooms, so tonight on UKNY at 11, we'll hear new tracks from both Menace Beach, a Leeds "supergroup," and The School, an effervescent Cardiff septet. Also, the latest from London siblings Kitty, Daisy and Lewis, who play Central Park Summerstage on September 2, and the brusque and frustrated political bark of Nottingham's Sleaford Mods.
Also, August 10 marked the eight anniversary of the passing of Manchester music impressario and manager Tony Wilson, the co-founder of Factory Records and the famed Hacienda club. Poet Mike Garry and composer Joe Duddell have recently released a beautifully crafted charity single about Wilson and his legacy, to benefit Manchester's Christie Cancer Hospital where Wilson died in 2007 after battling kidney cancer. I'll play the song tonight and you can watch an expanded video, which features Bernard Sumner, Gillian Gilbert and Stephen Morris of New Order, Iggy Pop, Steve Coogan, John Cooper Clarke, Shaun Ryder, and many others below. Find out more at the Saint Anthony Facebook page too.
Nestled in a cabin in the woods or just out watching the stars? You can catch up to UKNY on demand in the FUV weekend archives up to two weeks after broadcast.
