This  FUV Live session is also available as a podcast, "FUV Live Sessions." We're elevating WFUV's long history of live sessions and interviews via a podcast that you can find on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Podcasts. New episodes drop every Monday.

Kathleen Edwards has long offered her fans an embarrassment of musical riches over the course of six albums and multiple EPs. From her debut album, 2002's Failer to last year's Billionaire and her Covers EP, Edwards' songs — her own and those covers — have resonated with emotional depth and lyrical heft.

In FUV's year-end listeners poll, “Save Your Soul," from Billionaire, was voted as one of the best songs of the year. I got a chance to talk to her about that song and its titular similarity to the '90s hit by Jewel. This led to an interesting conversation about the all-female music festival, Lilith Fair, and Edwards' full-circle experience, from attending the festival as a budding songwriter to composing the music for the 2025 CBC documentary, "Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery."

Edwards also spoke about the concept of being a billionaire, explaining that she's not necessarily speaking of being rich in a monetary sense, but in love and friendship. That said, please do buy her record. She does need to make a living!

For me, Billionaire stood our as one of the best albums of 2025. As a lyricist, Edwards is as sharp as ever and her compositions are sprawling and complex, as on ”Need a Ride” which features a searing guitar solo from Jason Isbell. He also helped produce the record along with Gena Johnson. Other talented friends on Edwards' album include Daniel Tashian, Allison Moorer, and Shelby Lynne.

For this FUV Live session, guitarist and backing vocalist Matt Sucich joined Edwards for a trio of songs: “When The Truth Comes Out," “Little Red Ranger," and “Save Your Soul."
