"Cavalcade" at 6 p.m. welcomes Jim Kerr of Simple Minds in the 8 p.m. hour for conversation about the group's upcoming tour and the 40th anniversary of their benchmark album, Once Upon a Time. Kerr will detail the backstory of Simple Minds' '80s classic, "Don't You (Forget About Me)," and its use as the memorable theme song of the era's coming-of-age classic film, "The Breakfast Club."Simple Minds, supported by Modern English and Soft Cell, come to Jones Beach on June 13.
Kim Deal offers subtle instrumental texture with just the right touch of grunge on a new album, Big Ben Beat. Bon Iver projects a slow jams glow on his new song "Everything is Peaceful Love." Courtney Barnett takes Neil Young's "Lotta Love" for a spin on a new Bridge School Benefit album project, and Chris Pierce boils "Southern Man" down to a slow smolder. Plus Neil himself breaks out his first studio recording with the Chrome Hearts, and digs back to the analog archives for the reconstructed "lost" album Oceanside/Countryside.
That's all in a winter night's "Cavalcade," 6-9 p.m. Sundays, on 90.7FM, streaming online, or on demand in the Archives after broadcast.
