A powerful new Garbage song with a wry look at our times, "There's No Future In Optimism," leads the pack on this "Cavalcade" spring Sunday evening at 6 p.m.. The deeply soulful voices of Brittany Davis and Annie & The Caldwells add joyous spring reverie, along with a pop-up live release by Billy Strings with Bryan Sutton.

Also, Laufey, Tune-Yards, Sharon Van Etten, and Neil Hannon, a.k.a. The Divine Comedy — .all strong new releases. In between, cloning the Grateful Dead's "Dire Wolf;" a Parliament Funkadelic song inspired by a Bar Mitzvah chant; and The Who debut a 54-year-old old song for its first concert rendition, and it didn't flow pure and easy.

Catch up with "Cavalcade," Sundays 6-9 p.m., on 90.7 FM, streaming online, and in the Archives.
