Toronto-born, Nova Scotia-based singer and songwriter Afie Jurvanen, who records as Bahamas, never thought of himself as a singer at the start. But over the course of seven albums on Brushfire Records, most recently 2025's My Second Last Album,  the five-time Juno winner began to realize just how powerfully his lyrics were resonating with fans. He might not be going viral on Spotify, but that doesn't matter to Jurvanen: he prefers that people find him in a more organic way.

With My Second Last Album, nominated for a 2026 Juno (his tenth such nomination), Jurvanen's knack for a fluid kind of country music, with an indie-pop Canadian flair, expands with a supple, surefooted songs that are pulled by a desire of personal liberty and grounded wellbeing. On songs like the  "The Bridge," a collaboration with M.C. Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger, Jurvanen's love of family — and freedom — has a yearning, soulful bend; his simple words elevate this unassuming anthem of unconditional love.

A dozen years ago, Bahamas played an FUV Live concert at Rockwood Music Hall, so it was good to have Jurvanen and his bandmates — bassist Christine Bougie and drummer Josh TanTassel — to make it to the Bronx this time for an acoustic set of three songs from My Second Last Album: "The Bridge," "Shadows," and "Ready for a New Thing."

Says FUV Live session host Benham Jones, who interviewed Jurvanen: "Bahamas pulls no punches when it comes to self-effacement, toying with the opposing paragons of machismo and humility in a way that rewards an engaged listener rather than celebrating its own cleverness — and I was stunned to learn that this was the first time the current configuration had ever played these songs together."

In the autumn of 2026, Bahamas launches the 14-date North American "The Industrial Sport & Sound Tour."
