The WFUV "What's What" Podcast

What's What

The WFUV “What's What” podcast explores current events, culture, news and hot topic issues surrounding the New York metropolitan area, and stretches out for a wider view — including features, interviews and music news exclusively from WFUV. New episodes air every weekday after 4 pm.

Topics for Tuesday, August 12, 2025:

  • Today, Washington D.C. National Guard members began arriving to fight what Trump called “an increase in violent crime.” According to the D.C. police, crime has been down 26% compared to last year. WFUV’s Adithi Vimalanathan spoke with Columbia professor and MSNBC Political Analyst Basil Smikle Jr. to discuss what this could mean for NYC.
  • Some New Yorkers are getting free college starting in the Fall. WFUV’s Brenda Plascencia has more.
  • New Yorkers can now fish for free at a brand-new spot on the Hudson, no permit required, and gear is provided. WFUV’s Andrew McDonald went down to Pier 97 to check out Hudson River Park’s latest expansion to its Big City Fishing Program.
