UKNY for September 6

Jorja Smith's third album, What Are the Odds, slipped into late summer 2026 with breezy confidence and a desire to dance, a testament to this West Midlands artist's mutability, whether she's exploring dimensions of house, jazz, R&B, or straight-up pop. On "UKNY" at 7 p.m. tonight, one of the many great tracks off of Smith's latest album, her first in three years, and a collaboration with producer Richard Isong, also known as P2J.

Leicester-born, London-based Sofy has released a pair of Bored in Colour EPs — there's a Pt. 1 and a Pt. 2 — and her forthcoming debut album, How to Perform Magic, released September 25, is a fantastic flurry of her sharp and witty alternative pop. Nominated for a Mercury Prize for his first album, Bad with Names, corto.alto's Liam Shortall is back with Some Small Fortune, the Glaswegian multi-instrumentalist's broad, bold brushstrokes here blurring jazz with classical, folk, soul and more.

Also tonight: Brooklyn's Starcleaner Reunion have a swoon-worthy dreamscape of a debut album ahead, Umbrella, released on September 25, plus strong new releases from Remi Wolf, Gen and the Degenerates, Erykah Badu & The Alchemist, Julia Jacklin, and Bristol's remarkable foot foot, whose just-released "The Garden" strolls down a gorgeously unpredictable path, seizing on an aesthetic that aligns with peers like caroline and Black Country, New Road.
