On a special holiday edition of UKNY at 11, the premiere of an FUV Live session with Irish singer and songwriter Lisa Hannigan who released her third album, At Swim, last month. Hannigan, who was nominated for a Mercury Prize for her 2008 solo debut Sea Sew, came off of a two-year world tour for her second release, Passenger, and traveled to London to begin working on songs for her next record. But rather than composing songs, Hannigan struggled with a crippling case of writer's block.

Not until a chance email arrived from The National's Aaron Dessner, wondering if she wanted to collaborate on something, did Hannigan find the tides shifting. She ended up asking Dessner to produce At Swim, an exquisite and haunting album. Hannigan visited FUV last month with her bandmates Ross Turner and Heather Broderick and they played three songs from the new release: "Prayer for the Dying," "Fall" and "We, The Drowned."

And since this week's FUV Essentials artist is Led Zeppelin, the second half of UKNY is devoted to the post-Zep solo work of Robert Plant—his nearly 35-year solo career, eclectic and expansive, eclipses the dozen years that Led Zep existed.
