UKNY for September 10
When Ezra Collective's name was announced this past Thursday at London's Eventim Apollo as the winners of 2023 Mercury Prize for Where I'm Meant To Be, the five band members —drummer and bandleader Femi Koleoso, bassist TJ Koleoso, keyboardist Joe Armon-Jones, trumpeter Ife Ogunjobi, and tenor saxophonist James Mollison, piled atop each other, jubilant and a bit shocked. The London quintet's 2022 release was the first jazz album in the 31-year history of the Mercury Prize to ever win the prestigious music award. On tonight's "UKNY" at 11 p.m., a set dedicated to that outstanding album.
Laufey released her second album, Bewitched, on Friday and is already collecting critical raves alongside her sold-out North American tour (she also did an FUV Live session with me last week, available online later this month). Plus new releases from Sofia Kourtesis, Pale Blue Eyes, Corinne Bailey Rae, Marika Hackman, Sprints and more.
British and international releases, leaning on the new, on "UKNY," Sundays from 11 p.m.-midnight on 90.7FM, streaming at WFUV.org and in the Archives after broadcast.
