Following his electrfying Glastonbury Festival performance in 2000, David Bowie headed into the studio with his crack backing band of that era — Mark Plati, Sterling Campbell, Gail Ann Dorsey, Earl Slick, Mike Garson, Holly Palmer, and Emm Gryner — to resurrect some of his older songs from 1964-71 with refreshed interpretations and the energy of live performance. Meant to drop in 2001, that album, Toy, got sidelined instead by label and technology issues and has since floated in the Bowie fan ethers as a lost recording (aside from bootlegs).

Twenty years later, Toy will finally get its long overdue official release as the fifth box set in an ongoing David Bowie series, called Brilliant Adventure (1992-2001), on November 26.  A full TOY:BOX will follow on January 7, the day before what would have been Bowie's 75th birthday. On "UKNY" tonight at 11pm, the first tease of the legendary Toy.

Also in the mix, Manchester's slinky Porij and Sons of Kemet's Theon Cross looks ahead to a solo album. The Leeds collective Fold ready a new concept album inspired by the late American playwright, writer, and civil rights activist Lorraine Hansberry. The Isle of Wight's Coach Party have a ferocious new song that directy addresses what it feels like, as a woman, to be unsafe or objectified. And London's ethereal Bleach Lab return with a new EP on the horizon.

That's "UKNY," Sundays 11p.m.-midnight on 90.7, streaming online and found in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
