On this late October night, in the thick of a chaotic news cycle and overall disquiet, I thought I'd focus on an hour of songs that lean towards a quieter tempo or temperament. One such thoughtful songwriter is Wiltshire's Dermot Henry, who will release his debut album, Bad Throw, Good Catch, on November 20, a swift followup to his May 2026 EP, Aiming Torches at the Sun. Henry, who recently appeared on "Later with Jools Holland" and will embark on his debut headlining tour this autumn in the UK, describes the second single from this new album, "I Love You, That's All" as a distillation of his own fears about the world, reminding himself that "connection, community and love are so important to getting around this.”

Love also filters through songs by London's Little Grandad, Brighton's Penelope Isles, and Cleo Sol, who'll be playing New York's Madison Square Garden on April 13, 2027. Also in tonight's mix, Melbourne's Hannah Cameron and South London sextet Gently Tender, whose latest album, This Was Once Fields, came out earlier this month.

That's "UKNY," Sundays from 7-8 p.m., on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
