UKNY for October 25
Cardiff's Rosehip Teahouse might describe themselves as a "twinkling descent into sadness," but there is an uplifting beauty to the songs of Faye Rogers and her bandmates. On UKNY at 11, one of the band's songs from their forthcoming Fine EP, their second, released in early December.
Also, the barbed observations of Limerick-raised, London-based Sinead O'Brien who has released her arresting debut EP, Drowning in Blessings. London's Nilüfer Yanya has a new EP in her sights, a follow-up to her lauded debut album, 2019's Miss Universe. Australian producer Logic1000 has released an addictive single with a cool little sample and the new album from Ride's Andy Bell, the excellent The View from Halfway Down, makes you wonder what took him so long to launch his solo debut.
Plus a lush cover of a McCoy Tyner composition from Bristol's Ishmael Ensemble, found on the new Blue Note Re:Imagined collection, rounding up some of Britain's great, young jazz luminaries.
All that and more in an hour via UKNY on Sunday nights, 11p.m.-midnight, on 90.7, streaming online, and found in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
