UKNY for November 22
It's been a bleak, cruel and unrelenting year for all of us. So any small pleasure that we find — like a song or EP that feels like pure, unadulterated sunshine — feels more precious than usual. One such gift is the effervescent new EP Primavera, the debut from the French trio Páula, Povoa & Jerge. The three began working together during lockdown: Páula, Brazilian-born and raised in France, is part of the band Tampon Tango; Jules Rosset, who goes by Povoa, produces; and guitarist Jerge tours with bands like Christine and the Queens. On tonight's UKNY at 11, something from that trio's sweet release, due out on November 27.
Also in the feel-good category is the new release from Teenage Fanclub, ahead of the band's 12th studio album Endless Arcade, due out on March 5, and the group's first album in four years. Berlin's Albertine Sarges has released an real anthem, with equal measures wit and fury, and London's reflective Mysie, winner of the Ivor Novello Rising Star Award, has a new song too.
Additionally in tonight's hour-long mix, new releases from Toronto's Mustafa, Brighton's Hanya, and Irish force of nature Roísín Murphy, who has released one of the best dance albums of the year, Roísín Machine, just when no one can dance in clubs — but your living room is always an option.
All on UKNY, Sundays 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7 and streaming online, available after broadcast in the Weekend Archives.
