UKNY For November 18
Returning from magical Iceland to chaotic New York City is never easy, but on UKNY at 11 tonight, I'm easing that tough transition with the premiere of an FUV Live session with one of my favorite musicians, the delightfully quirky and wise Gruff Rhys. His new solo album, Babelsberg, seizes upon the dystopian undertow of the globe at present, but buoys his darker lyrics with the filigree of effusively pretty pop that harks back to the late '60s.
Also, two acts that had impressive sets at Iceland Airwaves — the Faroe Islands-raised, Reykjavík-based Heiðrik and Dublin's riveting Fontaines D.C., who head to the States next spring to support IDLES on tour. The ever-restless Underworld returns with new music from the duo's just-launched "Drift" platform too.
Missed the show? UKNY is always available on demand in the FUV Weekend Archives, immediately after broadcast.
