UKNY for November 17
Back when the Hastings-Brighton trio HotWax played their first UKNY/FUV Live session in late November 2023, they'd released two excellent EPs that year - A Thousand Times and Invite Me, Kindly — impressing everyone who caught their searingly confident solo gigs and supporting bands like Royal Blood. HotWax further cemented that reputation as a brilliant live act touring this year, including their SXSW debut back in March. Now Tallulah Sim-Savage, Lola Sam and Alfie Sayers have their eyes set on 2025 with their debut album, Hot Shock, released March 7. On tonight's "UKNY" at 11 p.m., the lead-off single from the record, a crisp blast of grungy glitter.
Nottingham's Divorce will also release their debut album, Drive to Goldenhammer, on March 7 and they've released the wistfully catchy second single from it. Hong Kong-born Londoner Miso Extra connects with Metronomy's Joseph Mount for her smoochy new single and Netherlands-born, London-based Dutch Mustard cites inspiration and encouragement from former Pulp bassist and producer Anthony Glenn for her latest release.
While Underworld entreat listeners not to shuffle the songs on their new Strawberry Hotel, I'll take another track out of context — one that the band has been including in their sets since early last year.
Also in the mix: Nigerian-born, London-based Kokoroko, Naarm/Melbourne's Queenie, Dublin's Gurriers and more.
A British and global mix on "UKNY," Sunday nights from 11 p.m.-midnight on 90.7FM, streaming online and in the Archives after broadcast.
