Biig Piig's Jess Smyth was born in Cork, Ireland, lived as a child in Marbella, Spain, and now resides in west London, where she found a DIY community with the arts and music collective NiNE8 (and her day job was as a poker dealer). Slipping between soul, hip hop, and pop — and English and Spanish — Smyth has been releasing singles and EPs since 2016, including last year's "Sunny" and "Roses and Gold," both heard on this show. On tonight's "UKNY" at 11, new music from Smyth, one of two new singles she's released this autumn.

Manchester is also well-represented in the hour, via newcomer Phoebe Green, Pale Waves, Guy Garvey with a solo release, and another track from Doves' reunion album, The Universal Want. Also, Liverpool's Jane Weaver, Cardiff's Rosehip Teahouse, Melbourne's Memphis LK, and Nottingham's Yazmin Lacey with a poignant cover of an Academy Award-nominated song that was also covered by Blue Note artist Dodo Greene in 1962.

That's "UKNY" on Sundays, 11p.m.-midnight, on 90.7, also streaming online and available via the Weekend Archives on demand.
