UKNY For November 14: Mercury Prize Show
Although music competitions are always fraught with some controversy—can diverse artists be judged so broadly?—the Mercury Prize is perhaps the most prestigious award granted to a British or Irish band or artist. Past winners include PJ Harvey (twice), Pulp, Alt-J, Franz Ferdinand, James Blake, Portishead, Elbow and last year's recipients, Young Fathers.
Next Friday, November 14, one of twelve shortlisted albums will win the 2015 Mercury Prize (which includes a £20,000 purse, or about $30,000) in a ceremony and concert held at the BBC's Broadcasting House in London and tonight on UKNY at 11, we'll review each of these fine nominees, including releases from Jamie xx, Aphex Twin, Wolf Alice, C Duncan, Ghostpoet, Eska and more.
Missed the show? You can catch up to UKNY on demand in the FUV weekend archives up to two weeks after broadcast.
