UKNY for May 28
Irish band NewDad have released two of my favorite EPs over the last handful of years — 2022's Banshee and 2021's Waves. They've now signed a major label deal and have released their first new song of 2023, which I first played on last week's show and needed to hear again this week. On "UKNY" at 11 p.m., that single from this fast-rising, dream-gaze group from Galway, in the midst of recording their debut album.
More new music too from London-based, Austrian-Brazilian musician Viji, real name Vanilla Jenner (no relation to a certain reality show crew), who has been working with producer Dan Carey of Speedy Wunderground. And speaking of all things Carey, he has another side project, Miss Tiny, a collaboration with Warmduscher's Benjamin Romans-Hopcraft, and a forthcoming debut EP, Den7, due on July 21.
Obongjayar returns with an euphoric single meant for sultry summer nights, as does the London duo Jungle, who release their next album, Volcano, on August 11, and land at Forest Hills Stadium on September 30.
Also, releases from Modern Woman, Whitelands, Nina Nastasia with Screaming Females' Marissa Paternoster, and Skinny Pelembe in the mix.
New British and international releases on "UKNY," Sundays from 11p.m.-midnight on 90.7 FM, streaming online and available in the Archives after broadcast.
