UKNY for March 8

Today, March 8, is International Women's Day — but so is every day, as the global goal of gender equity is really 24/7, 365 days a year. On "UKNY" at 7 p.m. tonight, a chorus of terrific artists underlines the achievement of musicians, such as Brighton's Lime Garden, who release their second album, Maybe Not Tonight on April 10. A recent single from that album, "23," inspired a set about that particular watershed year, pitched between adolescence and young adulthood.
RAYE is also thinking back being younger, with a new single, from the forthcoming This Music May Contain Hope, that is set on the street in Tooting, London where she grew up. Dublin's Soda Blonde has signed to another label (AWAL) and just released a single to celebrate that fresh start.
Everything released so far from American Avalon Emerson & The Charm's forthcoming Written into Changes is exquisite — and I'll get to one of those great tracks. The multifaceted producer, musician and DJ, and now-upstate New Yorker, has a Knockdown Center gig on May 8.
Leeds' English Teacher teams up with Graham Coxon for the HELP(2) benefit album for War Child — released on Friday — plus Newcastle's Heidi Curtis, London's Bea Elmy Martin, Toronto's Charlotte Day Wilson, and a heartbreaking beauty of a song from Montréal's Afternoon Bike Ride.
"UKNY," now on Sundays from 7-8 p.m. on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
