Every day should be International Women's Day, but it officially falls on March 8 each year.  Echoing the mantra of the day: An equal world is an enabled world (no matter how far we might feel from that goal these days). On tonight's UKNY at 11, an hour of exceptional artists of all genres from across the globe, like Sweden's Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon (joined by Colombian-American Kali Uchis), the late and great Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex, Liverpool-via-Norway newcomer SKIA, London composer and saxophonist Nubya Garcia, Glasgow's Isobel Campbell, and another Londoner, electronic goddess Kelly Lee Owens who releases her second album, Inner Song, on May 1.

Also, a rediscovered dance track that's become a viral hit from Kolkata, India's Rupa Biswas. Thanks to her enterprising son who discovered his mother's long-forgotten debut album, 1982's Disco Jazz, and uploaded it to YouTube, Rupa is now the toast of club DJs and producers, like Caribou's Dan Snaith, who've fallen head over heels with her beguiling sound. It's a fantastic story, covered last year by both the Guardian and Pitchfork.

That's UKNY, Sunday nights from 11 p.m.-midnight on 90.7, also streaming online and available on demand after broadcast in the Weekend Archives.
