Listening to the expressive house music of Peruvian-born, Berlin-based Sofia Kourtesis is a heightened, immersive experience of the mind, the body, and the heart. The intuitive electronic musician cites the entwining threads of love and grief as a catalyst for many of her songs, as on her brilliant 2021 EP, Fresia Magdalena, inspired by her parents. On this Mother's Day — in the UK — Kourtesis is back with a new single that aligns perfectly with the day, called "Madres," and I'll get to that gorgeous track on "UKNY" tonight at 11 p.m. (Sofia recently postponed her Milan show due to her mother's worsening health, which makes the message of "Madres" even more poignant.)

Also landing in the sea of pretty is the new collaboration between Phoenix and Clairo, a remix of "After Midnight" and another song from the new album from Montréal's Chiiild, called Better Luck in the Next Life. London's bar italia are now signed to Matador Records and have a first single on the new label.

Also new music from Welsh musician Polly Mackey, who records as Art School Girlfriend, the British collective Qwalia, led by London-based drummer Yusuf Ahmed, and Ruben Nielson's Unknown Mortal Orchestra, who released a double album, V, on Friday.

That's "UKNY," Sundays 11 p.m. to midnight, on 90.7 FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
