UKNY for March 15
It's impossible to not be deeply concerned about the coronavirus storm swirling around us, but we hope that you're giving yourself a break from the news at times and escaping through music on WFUV.
Tonight's UKNY at 11 gives you the chance to safely travel Britain via new releases from London's Greentea Peng, Shepperton's Softer Still, Manchester's PINS, Newcastle's Lanterns on the Lake, and the Icelandic-UK trio, Dream Wife.
Elastica's brilliant, brash self-titled debut turned 25 yesterday, March 14, so I'll delve into that glorious (and influential) album, one of my desert island discs. My first major feature for Rolling Stone magazine was a profile of Elastica: I followed Justine Frischmann, Donna Matthews, Annie Holland and Justin Welch for three freezing days in New York in the winter of '95; four sensitive, smart and funny musicians who never anticipated becoming Britpop sensations.
Also, an entire set to encourage you to breathe through this tempest of worry that we find ourselves navigating.
That's UKNY, Sundays 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7, also streaming online and available on demand in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
