UKNY for March 13
Based in Ghent, Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul's first debut album as a duo, Topical Dancer, dives headlong into wordplay that holds both humor — and hurt. The Belgian pair, longtime collaborators, builds lyrics from clichés and patronizing advice, as well as snippets of the painfully racist rhetoric that they've had aimed in their direction, and wraps them into electrofunk grooves. On "UKNY" tonight at 11 p.m., a track they say owes a debt to the songwriting of David Byrne.
New releases from Manchester-born, London-based Floating Points, Chicago's Horsegirl, and Iceland's Arny Margret too. And a set of three Ukrainian artists and bands, originally based in Kyiv — Straytones, 6th Crowd, and DakhaBrakha, who you can also support via their linked Bandcamp pages. Some have left the city as refugees, others have stayed despite the terrible danger. You can also lend a hand to the people of Ukraine via these organizations listed via WFUV News.
That's "UKNY," late night British and global releases, on 90.7 FM, streaming online, and available in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
