UKNY for March 10
The SXSW Music Festival officially kicks off on Tuesday and as is the annual tradition of "UKNY," a preview of some of the British and international bands that will descend on the crowded venues and streets of Austin, Texas this year, through March 16.
I'll be attending with Team FUV this year, grateful to do so, and equally looking forward to seeing some of the British artists and bands I've been playing on this show for a long time that I've not seen play live yet, like Nottingham's Divorce, Manchester's Porij, London's Rachel Chinouriri, and Cardiff's Islet.
Also on tonight's show, a band that I've seen many times, Dry Cleaning, finally making it down to SXSW after their Austin trip was sidelined in 2020 due to the pandemic and the festival's cancellation (they'll be playing the Public Radio Day Stage on Friday). Nabihah Iqbal, whose exquisite Dreamer was one of the best albums of 2023, will be at the Women That Rock showcase, and a Brooklyn favorite, Slow Fiction, will bring their charismatic selves to Texas.
Dreamy songs from Munich-born, British-based Victoria Canal, London's mui zyu, Galway's NewDad, and Montréal's Le Couleur too ... and much more.
That's "UKNY," Sundays from 11pm-midnight on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
