UKNY For March 10
Just 25 years old, Islington's Simbi Ajikawo, who records as Little Simz, released her third album, GREY Area, earlier this month to swift critical acclaim. The rapper wrangles her own anxiety, grief and depression on the record, mourning the fates of friends and questioning her own trajectory at a quarter century. The result is a dazzling album, abundant with exquisite flows, defiant detours, and deft turns of phrase — undoubtedly one of the best releases of 2019 thus far.
On UKNY at 11, a track from that new Little Simz album, plus a look at some of the British artists converging on the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas this week, like Penelope Isles, the Comet is Coming, and Trudy and the Romance.
Tonight's show was prerecorded earlier last week — before news of the postponement of Massive Attack's North American tour was announced (they were slated for two Radio City Music Hall shows this week) — but we'll also get to something from Mezzanine, plus more Talk Talk too.
Can't quite make it to 11 tonight thanks to a daylight savings sleep fog? Catch up to UKNY at any time on demand in the Weekend Archives.
