London trio and lower-case fans mary in the junkyard released their excellent debut EP, this old house, last year and this spring, they hit the road with Wet Leg in the UK (and will do so again in the States later this summer). The classically trained friends of mary in the junkyard — singer and guitarist Clari Freeman-Taylor, bassist and viola player Saya Barbaglia, and drummer David Addison — began the band as teenagers in 2022, during the pandemic, honing their rock chops at Windmill Brixton and making their Glastonbury debut last year, with a slew of New York gigs too. On "UKNY" at 11 p.m., the latest single from this unstoppable threesome who describe themselves as "angry weepy chaos rock."
Milton Keynes-born, London-based Nectar Woode released her first two EPs last year, Nothing to Lose and How It's Gotta Be, and this month, she made her debut on "Later ... with Jools Holland" playing her new single. Saint Etienne has announced their final album in their 35th year, International, released on September 5 — the trio's first song from it has some additional friends; it was co-produced by the Chemical Brothers' Tom Rowlands with Doves' Jez Williams on guitar. And although she's been busy as a producer for other bands, from Wilco to Horsegirl, Cate Le Bon is readying her next solo album too.
Also in tonight's mix: The gospel-brushed high of Girls of the Internet, Nottingham's beguiling Midnight Rodeo, Scottish folk rocker Jacob Alon, Manchester's Georgian, the sublime Caroline, and a couple of New York local heroes, Pan Amsterdam and Frankie Cosmos.
British and global releases on "UKNY," Sundays from 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7 FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
