UKNY for June 23
Tonight's UKNY at 11 plants you in the muddy fields of Pilton's Worthy Farm for a Glastonbury Festival preview with some of the artists — like Little Simz (also at Music Hall of Williamsburg this evening), Michael Kiwanuka, and Shura — making the trek to Britain's legendary and massive outdoor festival. Glastonbury begins this Wednesday, June 26 and wraps on Sunday, June 30, highlighted by the Cure's headlining closing set on the Pyramid Stage.
Also, remembering innovative producer Philippe Zdar of Cassius and Motorbass who passed away last week, a pioneer of French house whose "French touch" and savvy also transformed albums by Phoenix, Cat Power, Franz Ferdinand, Cut Copy and so many others.
New releases from Metronomy, Marika Hackman, and even Freddie Mercury too.
Music discovery is at the heart of UKNY from 11 p.m. to midnight Sundays on 90.7, online and available on demand in the Weekend Archives.
