UKNY for June 11
The road to Nabihah Iqbal's new album, DREAMER, was far from easy. Just prior to the pandemic, the London musician, producer and DJ's studio was burgled and she lost not only equipment, but the album she'd been working on; to add to that hardship, she had broken her hand and a family emergency required her to go to Pakistan, where she spent lockdown. But that series of misfortunes led to the beautiful haze and emotive dance of DREAMER, a gentle slow burn of an album, released at the end of April. On tonight's "UKNY" at 11pm, something from Nabihah's beguiling album — she also played Public Records last night.
New releases from Netherlands-born, London-based Dutch Mustard too, real name Sarah-Jane "SJ" Riedel, whose just-released single is steeped in a shoegazy reverie. Sheffield's City Parking has a punchy new EP, and Romy has announced details of her solo debut album, Mid Air, at long last released on September 8th. Also, PJ Harvey, Léa Sen, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, and bar italia, the latter of which has sold out all four of their shows set for New York this week.
British and global sounds on "UKNY," Sundays from 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7 FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
