UKNY for July 7
"UKNY" marks its 11th anniversary on this first weekend of July — heading into year 12 — and on this long holiday weekend, an hour of both new releases and some vintage, summer-minded reveries.
Of the freshly-released tracks, the Northern Irish-Dutch duo Fräulein have finally dropped their long-promised mini-album, Sink or Swim, and have some exciting gigs ahead, including their own headlining shows and opening slots with The Kills in the UK and Europe. Fräulein's Joni Samuels (vocals, guitar) and Karsten van der Tol (drums) are as dynamic live as they are on their latest release: Sink or Swim is buoyant mix of edgy, spirited, and contemplative songs and sounds.
Also in the mix, revisiting RAYE's extraordinary epic of "Genesis," plus new Home Counties, Goat Girl, Zimmer90, Nia Archives, Fat Dog, Ezra Collective (playing Central Park SummerStage tonight) and another track from beabadoobee's forthcoming This is How Tomorrow Moves, released on August 16 via Dirty Hit.
That's "UKNY," Sundays 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
