The fourth album from Sons of Kemet, Black to the Future, is a reflection of not only the African diaspora, but bandleader, composer and saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings' travels as a child, between London, Birmingham, and Barbados. It's a vividly expressive album that reels between humor, anguish, and fury, and on tonight's "UKNY" at 11 tonight, another track from this compelling release from Hutchings, tuba player Theon Cross, and percussionists Edward Wakili-Hick and Tom Skinner (who is also part of The Smile with Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood).

The enigmatic Sault has also released a new album, Nine, with finite availability, and Daniel Avery's latest release, Together in Static, revels in beauty despite lockdown melancholy. South Korean-born, Berlin-based Peggy Gou also seizes on a hopeful metaphor with her new single, and Bobby Gillespie and Jehnny Beth have finally released their collaborative debut, Utopian Ashes, so expect a deeper cut off of that record from the pair.

Also, Brighton's CIEL, Wrexham's Art School Girlfriend, Hertfordshire's The Sukis, and more from LUMP, the duo of Laura Marling and Tuung's Mike Lindsay.

That's "UKNY" — which begins its ninth year on the this 4th of July weekend — every Sunday from 11p.m.-midnight, on 90.7 WFUV, streaming online and available in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
