Back in the nineties and early-mid noughties, the Brisbane-bred Minimum Chips, fronted by singer/keyboardist/drummer (and trombonist!) Nicole Thibault, had a delectable run of singles, EPs and albums released on Chapter Music, and regularly opened for the likes of Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, Stereolab, and Pavement. Minimum Chips dissolved in 2007 and the now Melbourne-based Thibault took some personal time. But now she's back with a new band, Thibault, and a debut album, Or Not Thibault, is right around the corner, released September 4 on Chapter Music. On "UKNY" at 11 tonight, something from that forthcoming record, which includes Nicole's former Minimum Chips bandmate Julian Patterson, Parsnip's Rebecca Liston, ORB and Traffik Island's Zak Olsen, and The Ocean Party's Lachlan Denton (Thibault's touring band is Zak, Rebecca and Parsnip's Stella Rennex).

The 2020 Mercury Prize shortlist was announced on Thursday and we'll hear from three of those 12 nominees: Brighton's Porridge Radio, London's Moses Boyd, and Newcastle's Lanterns on the Lake. Fast-rising teenage rapper Scuti has a debut mixtape; the dynamic Lagos-born, London-based Obongjayar's EP is one of the most compelling releases of the year; and New Order lends their epic support to the charity album The Longest Day, with all proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer's Association.

All of that and much more on "UKNY," Saturday nights from 11pm-midnight on 90.7 and streaming online, also found in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
