Rebecca Lucy Taylor, who records as Self Esteem, released one of the most galvinizing albums of last year, Prioritise Pleasure, a frank, scathing, funny and vulnerable assessment of the hurdles that many women encounter when navigating societal expectations, reality, and relationships. Taylor, who spend over a decade with her former band, Slow Club, strikes a very different path as Self Esteem, and her pop acuity has earned her a 2022 Brit Award nomination for Best New Artist.

Even better, she's coming to the States in March for just two shows: at Brooklyn's Baby's All Right on March 10 and Los Angeles's The Moroccan Lounge on March 14. On tonight's "UKNY" at 11pm, I'll revisit one of my favorite songs from Prioritise Pleasure.

New releases from Nilüfer Yanya, Sofia Kourtesis, Mysie, Abbie Ozard, and Dublin's Pillow Queens, plus a Food Records twofer, in memory of that label's storied co-runner Andy Ross who passed away last week at 66. Back in November 1989, Ross spotted a scrappy young band called Blur play a set at Islington Powerhaus and he signed them to Food Records in early 1990 ... and the rest is Britpop history. Ross not only guided and managed Blur, but also signed bands like Idlewild, Jesus Jones, Shampoo, and Dubstar.

Late night British and international music on "UKNY," Sundays from 11p.m.-midnight, on 90.7, streaming online, and available in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
