A New Year has rounded the corner, but on "UKNY" at 11 p.m., I'm still relishing some excellent releases of the past year, especially from fast-rising, young bands like the Leeds quartet English Teacher, Galway's NewDad, and The Nagging Doubts from Sydney, Australia whose second EP, Autocalm, was one of the very best of 2021.

Also, in the mix for 2021 standouts, dependable veterans like Wolf Alice, Damon Albarn, Unknown Mortal OrchestraSons of Kemet, and the inspired pairing of Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and Jehnny Beth of Savages.

Late night globetrotting on "UKNY," Sundays 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7, streaming online, and in the Weekend Archives for two weeks after broadcast.
