This past Friday was a busy day for new albums and on "UKNY" at 11 p.m., I'll get to several of them, including a track off the debut album from the Swansea-Manchester quintet Pastel, Souls in Motion.

Since forming in 2020, this scrappy guitar band has nailed the sound of soaring, arena-ready rockers and have built a grassroots base — and fans like Liam Gallagher who asked them to open for him at Knebworth. Pastel, which is on the indie Spirit of Spike Island label, might have '90s touchstones such as The Verve, The Stone Roses, and Oasis in the rear view, but they have charged ahead on their own merits.

Porridge Radio has decided to call it a day after their complete their final tour — which includes a stop next Saturday, January 25, at Warsaw (so go, if tix are still available.) For their swan song, they'll be releasing one final EP, Machine Starts to Sing, and I'll have the first release from it.

The British-American duo Prima Queen have a new single, as does Doves and hard-rocking Hastings trio HotWax.  The Miki Berenyi Trio has released a new single and announced a debut album, Tripla, as Berenyi promised last year in a "UKNY" interview.

That's "UKNY," Sundays from 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7 FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
