The second album from Ireland's NewDad, 2025's Altar, was a deeply personal one for the band, who chose to move from their hometown of Galway to London to advance their career. In a new "UKNY" conversation tonight at 11 p.m., recorded backstage at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town last autumn prior to NewDad's concert (with Cardinals opening), lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Julie Dawson spoke about the raw honesty and homesickness that courses through Altar. She also touched on the the impact of producer Sam Breathwick, a.k.a. Shrink, and what it meant to get an enthusiastic endorsement from the Cure's Robert Smith.

More Irish bands tonight too — including the rising Dublin-based duo Burglar, Belfast's Chalk, and NewDad's Cork pals Cardinals, who release their debut album, Masquerade, this Friday, February 13.

Also on tonight's show, wiry Leeds dance punks Adult DVD  — headed to SXSW this March — plus London's Whitelands and Eaves Wilder. And since it's the "Benito Bowl" tonight — a little Bad Bunny too.

British and global releases on "UKNY," Sundays from 11 p.m.-midnight on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast. Programming note: Beginning on Sunday, February 22, "UKNY" moves to 7 p.m. ET.
