Porridge Radio's second album, Every Bad, was released on March 13, 2020 — an absolutely horrific time to drop a new album. Britain hurtled into its first Covid lockdown a mere ten days later and needless to say, any chance for the Brighton band, led by Dana Margolin, to tour behind their just-released record was impossible. But the ferocity of Every Bad was exhilarating, illuminated by Margolin's wild savage-and-soft shapeshifting, and Porridge Radio found themselves nominated for a Mercury Prize. While they didn't win (Michael Kiwanuka did), it was a nice surprise for a young band that had some dreams dashed that year.

Two years on into the pandemic, touring has returned and so has Porridge Radio with a brand new single — which I'll play tonight on "UKNY" at 11 p.m. The timing still feels grim, given world events, but the group will release its third album, Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder to the Sky, on May 20.

In addition, Metronomy also hooked up with Margolin for a track on their lovely new album, Small World, and I'll have new releases from Chester's Peaness, Brisbane's Eliza & The Delusionals, Somerset's China Bears, and Rwanda's The Good Ones. London's Hinako Omori, who has toured with Kae Tempest and Ed O'Brien's EOB, has also released another gorgeous track from a journey ..., her forthcoming debut album.

And I'll remember Mark Lanegan, who departed the world far too soon last week, with a set.

British and international release on "UKNY," Sundays 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7, streaming online, and found in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
