Grief and mental health have been a common refrain in a lot of new releases of late — or perhaps I've just been very aware of it. On her stunning new single from her forthcoming EP, Fresia Magdalena,  Lima-born, Berlin-based Sofia Kourtesis has composed a beautiful elegy for her late father, called "La Perla." The musician, who usually samples her vocals, also sings on the new track,  which Kourtesis says is meant to evoke the feeling of gazing at the sea in her native Peru.

On tonight's "UKNY" at 11 p.m., that early sample of Kourtesis's EP, released on March 19, plus another selection from London's Black Country, New Road's six-track debut masterpiece, for the first time.  Black Country, New Road refined their sound via repeated performances at the Windmill Brixton, as did another south London band, Goat Girl — and we'll hear a deeper cut from their new album, On All Fours, that directly addresses these anxious times.

Also, freshly released singles from Poppy Ajudha, UNKLE, and Yorkshire's Talkboy, plus two intriguing covers from Jenny Moore's Mystic Business and Katie Malco.

That's "UKNY," Sunday nights from 11p.m.-midnight on 90.7, streaming online, and available after broadcast in the Weekend Archives.
