Tonight's UKNY at 11 takes a look at a handful of the 15 artists and bands named to the BBC Sound of 2016 longlist earlier this week, like Billie Marten and Izzy Bizu (pictured). This list of young and promising artists, all predicted for success in the new year, has been compiled annually since 2003 by music writers, radio presenters and industry types. During the first full week of January, that longlist will be narrowed to four finalists and a winner, announced on January 8. The BBC Sound of 2016 isn't limited to British artists either: past winners include Adele, Haim, Sam Smith, Michael Kiwanuka and 50 Cent.

Also, a thrilling new song from Oldham's Kiran Leonard, in which he eerily channels Jeff Buckley, and a stirring track from Elbow's Guy Garvey, who released his solo debut album, Courting the Squall, in the UK earlier this fall.

At a holiday party and missed the show? You can catch up to UKNY on demand in the FUV weekend archives up to two weeks after broadcast.
