UKNY For December 2
As the deadline for voting in FUV's Best of 2017: Listener Poll fast approaches (make your choices by midnight, December 5), FUV staffers have also made our choices for the albums and songs of 2017 that made a big impression on us. (There's always albums and songs that I forget too after the fact too — apologies to Elbow, Dutch Uncles, Thundercat, Softer Still and Stars!)
But Jane Weaver's Modern Kosmology was as easy pick as one of my favorite albums of this past year, an assured collection of songs that deftly blends krautrock, ethereal synth-pop and psychedelic rock with a mystical slant. On UKNY tonight at 11, during the second half of the show, I'll revisit the FUV Live session I was lucky enough to do with Weaver back in October.
Also, new tunes from Field Music, Django Django, Softer Still (whose gorgeous EP, Visions of You, should have been on my staff pick list) and Norway-bred, London-based Anna Lena Bruland, who records as EERA; she headed to a west Wales dairy farm to lay down the tracks for her compelling debut album, Reflection of Youth.
At a holiday party tonight? Catch up to UKNY and all of our specialty shows in the FUV Weekend Archives immediately after broadcast.
