There were two bittersweet triumphs in British music this week. On Thursday, David Bowie, who died in January, was one of twelve artists and bands shortlisted for the 2016 Mercury Prize; Bowie was nominated for his final album, Blackstar.

And on Friday, the Cheshire band Viola Beach posthumously vaulted to the top of the British album charts with its self-titled debut, a project put together by the families of the deceased group. All four members of Viola Beach and their manager were tragically killed along in a car accident in Sweden in February while the band was on its first European tour. Coldplay paid tender tribute to Viola Beach at Glastonbury in June, fueling the momentum for the young band's album to soar to No. 1 on the UK charts.

On tonight's UKNY at 11, we'll hear from both David Bowie and Viola Beach, plus new releases from Massive Attack, Fold, and The Divine Comedy.

Out late or in bed early? You can stream UKNY in the FUV Weekend Archives for two weeks after broadcast.
