Back on August 1, I devoted an hour of "UKNY" to music of solace, beauty and euphoria. My mother had transitioned to hospice earlier that week and songs that made me think of her, or offered comfort or respite, were very much on my mind.

My beloved, brave, and beautiful mother passed away this past Sunday morning, August 23, and as you might imagine, the week has been impossibly painful. So I'm returning to that show that I first recorded a month ago, with gorgeous, contemplative, or uplifting songs from Massive Attack, Kate Bush, Radiohead, Underworld, Lianne La Havas, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and others. And thanks to my radio family at WFUV for their kindness over the last month.

"UKNY" airs 11pm-midnight Saturdays on 90.7, also streaming online and found in the Weekend Archives after broadcast.
