This past Wednesday, August 20, was the 30th anniversary of the press-generated Oasis vs. Blur "Battle of Britpop" showdown — when Blur's "Country House" slipped past Oasis's "Roll With It" on the UK charts. But there's a far friendlier convergence of British bands of in the New York area this late summer, as Oasis and Pulp return for three big stadium shows.
Oasis plays MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey next Sunday, August 31, and Monday, September 1, while Pulp make their Forest Hills Stadium debut on September 11.
On tonight's "UKNY" at 11 p.m., both bands dominate the hour, with live recordings of Oasis this year from Cardiff and Manchester, and I'll dive more deeply into Pulp's first new studio album in 24 years, More (with some vintage gems too).
There will be a few other surprises too on this Oasis and Pulp pre-concert party on "UKNY," Sunday nights from 11p.m.-midnight, on 90.7 FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
