Trees
"I Think That I Shall Never See,
A Poem Lovely As A Tree."
Do you agree? On this Arbor Day, WFUV's Question Of The Day is: Do You Have A Favorite Tree?
Poet Joyce Kilmer (yes, he was a dude; poetic lisence) composed the sentimental ode just over a hundred years ago in a modest Mahwah, New Jersey home that still stands. A dreadful little mock-art-song set the words to music and was recorded by great singers who should have known better, like Paul Robeson, Perry Como and Robert Merrill.
But its most famous rendition was by young Alfalfa in "The Little Rascals." I'll bet that's where you know it from. If you're not of that Channel 11 generation, Google it. It's sublimely goofy.
But first, please offer up a tree-name-checking song. And yes, your favorite tree species!
Planted and played:

Frank Sinatra: Tie A Yellow Ribbon
