Benham Jones here for Corny O'Connell today. Bank robbers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were ambushed and killed by police on this date in 1934. The couple's murderous exploits might be part of American criminal history, but public fascination with them was also rooted in the idea that they were a romantic couple.

They aren't the only couple with tales of love that end in tragedy. For Question of the Day, share your favorite tragic love songs and we'll put together a set after 9 a.m.

Songs played:

Richard Thompson - "1952 Vincent Black Lightning"
The Shangri-Las - "Leader of the Pack"
Lou Reed - "Romeo Had Juliette"
Marty Robbins - "El Paso"
