What a joy it was to hang with Brooklyn-based Tipa Tipo at WFUV! The band's warm rhythms and buoyant beats brought an inviting tropical yacht-rock vibe to Studio A.

There may be only three members — Adele Fournet, Felipe Wurst and Jordan Auber — but Tipa Tipo make a big sound and it felt like a party when they played live in Studio A for this session. Fournet and Wurst, who are married, met drummer/percussionist Auber joined once they came to New York from Lima, Peru. They released their debut album, Cintas, in 2023.

I first came across their music back in January when I played them on "NY Slice." Their brilliant song "Poco Tiempo," which translates to "little time," stayed in my head for a long time. It's a powerful reflection on the weighty expectations that society places on women.

On it, Fournet sings: "Tienes hijos, tienes plata, eres sexy, eres guapa? Tienes chico, un esposo? Ahora tienes, poco tiempo” (Do you have kids, do you have money, are you sexy, are you pretty? Do you have a boyfriend, a husband? Now you have so little time).

Below, videos of Tipa Tipo's Studio A performance of that song along with another banger from Cintas, "Ataque de Medianoche," plus the "NY Slice Pop Quiz."
